Dojo Duel

About this game

A 1v1 fighting game inspired by Tekken: four fighters with their own styles and specials, punch and kick strings, launchers and juggles, throws, high/low blocking and best-of-three rounds. How to play

Dojo Duel is a one-on-one fighting game in the style of Tekken. Knock out your opponent's health bar to win the round; the first fighter to win two rounds wins the match. If the 60-second timer runs out, whoever has more health left takes the round.

Blocking works like classic fighting games: hold back to block high and mid attacks, and hold back and down to block low ones. Crouching also ducks under high attacks, but sweeps and low punches will catch a standing player. Throws can't be blocked, so mix them in against someone who blocks all day.

Combos and juggles

Attacks chain into strings when the first hit lands: punch, punch, kick ends in a knockdown roundhouse, and kick, kick follows a body kick with a high kick. Forward plus kick is a launcher that pops your opponent into the air, where you can keep hitting them for a juggle combo. Each extra hit in a combo does a little less damage.

The fighters

Kenji is the all-rounder; his Rising Dragon uppercut can't be interrupted at the start and launches on hit. Vex is the fastest fighter, with Shadow Dash, a flying kick that crosses half the stage. Tank is slow but hits hard and has the most health; his Earthquake stomp sends a shockwave along the floor that must be blocked low. Lin has the longest legs in the dojo and a three-hit Cyclone Kick.

Every fighter builds special meter by landing and taking hits. When it's at least half full, press special to spend half of it.

Modes

Arcade puts you against all four fighters in a row, ending with a Shadow version of your own fighter on hard difficulty. You score points for every win, plus bonuses for health left, time left and perfect rounds, and your best run goes on the leaderboard when you're signed in on rank-game.com.

Versus CPU lets you pick an easy, normal or hard opponent. Two players can share one keyboard or plug in two gamepads. Online, Quick Match pairs you with someone else who's looking for a fight, or you can create a private room and send the code to a friend.

Tips

  • Don't just mash: blocked attacks leave you open, especially the launcher and power punch.
  • Crouch against a jab-happy opponent; their high punches will whiff over you.
  • After a forward+K launcher lands, hit them again before they touch the floor.
  • Save your special for when it's guaranteed to hit, like right after you block one of their slow attacks.
