Sentai Strike is a hero brawler inspired by classic Japanese color-squad shows. Each stage has three parts: defend the city from grunts, defeat the monster, then fight it again when it grows giant, this time in the Sentai Robo. This guide covers the general skills that win every stage, then each boss's patterns.
Core skills
Swap heroes often
Your team has three heroes (and a secret fourth you can unlock from the title screen). Press C to swap. Heroes on the bench slowly recover health, so rotating them keeps the whole team healthy. If you swap right after landing a hit, the incoming hero flies in with a tag combo dropkick that also fills your special gauge.
Spend your special gauge
Hitting enemies fills the yellow gauge, and each special uses one bar:
- X: a ranged blast (each hero's is different).
- Up + X: a rising uppercut that launches enemies.
- Down + X: a ground slam that knocks down everything nearby.
- Forward, forward, X: a rushing strike through enemies.
- Back, back, X: a counter stance that strikes back if you're hit.
You can cancel a combo into a special once the hit lands, which is a great way to finish a string.
Rescue citizens
During the defence phase, some grunts grab fleeing citizens and carry them toward the edge of the screen. Knock that grunt down and the citizen escapes. Citizens who reach safety fill the blue city gauge faster, while each one taken drains it, so always chase carriers first.
Read the red glow
Bosses glow red just before an attack. That's your cue to jump, guard or step away. Shells and guards can't stop launchers: the uppercut, ground slam and tag kicks break through.
The seven bosses
1. Shellshock Turtle
- Shell spin: it rolls across the whole screen. Jump over it.
- Stomp: it leaps and shakes the ground. Be in the air when it lands.
- Shell up: hits from the front just clang. Hit it from behind, or break the shell with an uppercut, slam or tag kick.
2. Gale Eagle
- Dive: it flies off screen and a red shadow marks where it will land. Move away from the mark.
- Feather volley: a spread of feathers. Guard them.
- Low swoop: a fast charge along the ground. Jump it.
3. Spiny Puffer
- Inflate: it puffs up and its spines hurt anyone who hits it from the front. Use launchers or wait it out.
- Spine burst: spines fly in every direction. Guard or keep your distance.
- Bounce: a stomp shockwave. Jump it.
4. Drill Mole
- Burrow: it disappears underground and a dust trail follows you. When the dust swirls in one place, move away immediately, because it bursts up there.
- Rock throw: arcing rocks. Step out from under them.
5. Widow Spider
- Web shot: if it hits, you're stuck. Mash buttons to break free, or guard the web.
- Spiderlings: it summons small fast minions. Clear them quickly with a ground slam.
- Ceiling drop: like the eagle's dive, a marked spot. Move.
6. Dark Striker
The dark one fights like a hero:
- Dash strike: a fast rush through you. Jump over it.
- Dark wave: a ranged blast. Guard.
- Counter stance: if you hit it with a melee attack during its stance, it teleports behind you and strikes back. Use ranged specials instead.
7. Queen Hornet
- Bee swarm: she summons flying bees. Use uppercuts to knock them down.
- Stinger dive: a marked dive attack.
- Honey: sticky pools that slow you down. Stay out of them.
- She gets faster at half health, so save a full gauge for the second half.
Finishing the boss
When the boss's health hits zero it's stunned, and the game prompts TEAM FINISHER. Press X quickly. If you wait too long, the boss recovers some health.
Giant robot battles
The monster grows giant and you pilot the Sentai Robo:
- Z attacks, holding X charges a big hit, down guards, up fires the thrusters for a hop, and C switches pilot.
- The pilot changes the robot's weapon: Red uses a giant sword, Blue twin blasters, Yellow a drill fist that breaks guards.
- The city behind you matters. Any attack you dodge lands on the buildings. Guarding takes a little chip damage but saves the city, and every building still standing at the end is worth bonus points.
Monster of the Day
Every day a mash-up monster combines moves from two bosses, like a turtle that also dives. Everyone fights the same one for the daily leaderboard, so knowing every boss's patterns pays off.
Play Sentai Strike and try beating the turtle without taking a single stomp.
